About The Shootout Event

During our truly unique two-day shootout event, drivers will get to drive our thrilling Formula cars, receive coaching from our driver and business instructors, and learn from our expert panelists about managing your career in motorsports.

It’s not just a shootout for a position on the Team Canada Scholarship squad – it’s the type of professional training event that could help you become one of Canada’s premier recognized and respected professional race car drivers.

Being attractive to top level teams to drive one of their cars isn’t just about being fast on-track. What happens off-track is just as important when you are dealing with the media, fans and the business end of racing.

Event Highlights being considered for the 2022 Shootout Event:

  • On-track lapping sessions to show your skills
  • Lectures on the “Development of your Race Craft”
  • Instruction from current and previous racing champions
  • In car video footage available
  • Lectures on “Working with Your Engineer”
  • Arrive & Drive – we provide our professionally prepared race cars
  • Introduction for “Broadcast & Media Training”
  • Importance of “Social Media Management”
  • Importance of “Fitness Training as a Driver”
  • Importance of “Business Marketing and How to get Started”
  • “Alumni Experience” Presentation(s)

The track for the shootout will be announced once the six candidates have been selected, but no “Home Track” advantage will be available for any driver. And no pre-shootout testing will be allowed at the track after the announcement is made.

Team Canada Scholarship (TCS) is pleased to announce that Graham Brunton Racing (GBR) will be our host team for the Formula Ford Festival and Walter Hayes Trophy race for 2022.

The Knockhill based multi championship winning team has had plenty of success in the National Formula Ford competition and will provide valuable driver development and motorsport logistics to TCS drivers Jake Cowden and Kevin Foster. As this will be our 10th year heading to the UK, being in a Ray chassis and continuing our long-term relationship with Gavin Ray is very important to us.

“GBR will be our new home this year when we get to England in October”, says TCS Founder and Director, Brian Graham. “GBR has always had well prepared cars and runs a very professional program. We are looking forward to building a relationship with Graham and his team.”

“The Team Canada Scholarship is a fantastic initiative, and we are so proud to announce being part of it for 2022” says GBR Team Owner, Graham Brunton. “The work put in behind the scenes to find and nurture young talent is something we are also passionate about which is why we believe this new partnership is going to be great for everyone involved. Everyone at Team GBR are looking forward to seeing how the shootouts go, and to hitting the ground running when the finalists come to the UK in October.”

TCS will be contending in the BRSCC Formula Ford Festival (October 22/23), one of the world’s greatest and most competitive single-seater competitions and the Walter Hayes Trophy (Nov 5/6), which boasts some of the busiest grids with drivers from around the world.
